This awesome sketch art card of Achilles from Greek Mythology is drawn by the very talented artist Chris Uminga www.facebook.com/ChristopherUminga for our Classic Mythology trading card set.

Greek Mythology – Achilles was a Greek hero of the Trojan War, the central character and the greatest warrior of Homer's Iliad. Achilles was the son of the nymph Thetis and Peleus, the king of the Myrmidons. Zeus and Poseidon had been rivals for the hand of Thetis until Prometheus, the fore-thinker, warned Zeus of a prophecy that Thetis would bear a son greater than his father. For this reason, the two gods withdrew their pursuit, and had her wed Peleus. According to the Achilleid, written by Statius in the 1st century AD, and to no surviving previous sources, when Achilles was born Thetis tried to make him immortal, by dipping him in the river Styx. However, he was left vulnerable at the part of the body by which she held him, his heel. As he died because of a small wound on his heel, the term Achilles' heel has come to mean a person's principal weakness.
